Scholarship Baskets

Washington State PTA will offer a scholarship basket raffle at the 111th Convention and Annual Meeting. Raffle baskets are generously donated by individuals, local PTAs, councils, and regions to raise funds for the WSPTA Scholarship Program. Four $2,500 scholarships are available to graduating seniors from Washington State public high schools with an active PTA, starting college (either 2-year or 4-year) in the fall. The scholarship may be used to offset the cost of tuition, books, supplies, room and/or board.

In the past, councils and PTAs have budgeted for scholarship basket donations, so consider adding this budget line at your next membership meeting!

How to Donate

Bring your basket to Convention, or arrange for someone to drop it off for you, by Saturday, May 18th at 8:00 a.m. Please complete the 2024 Scholarship Raffle Basket Form and bring it with your basket.

Helpful Hints for Great Gift Baskets!

• Network early with families in your region, council, or local PTA to collect items that can enhance the marketability of your basket.
•  Include a scholarship basket donation line in your budget.
• Consider more than one basket. A variety of sizes and values make for exciting raffles.
• Aim for a basket value between $50 and $250 (there have been some exceptions to this).
• Consider creative containers that are not baskets. See how many different options you can think of. We’ve seen everything – a flowerpot, mixing bowl, 30-gallon trash can, a backpack, and a compost bin as well as many, many more!
• Arrange items in the basket to be easily seen through the wrap.
• For great arrangements, the height of the contents should be 1.5 times the height of the container.
• Make two or three rows of items. Taller items can be placed towards the back and shorter items in front for better visibility of the contents.
• Give your basket a creative title and an easy-to-read tag that lists a complete inventory of all items in the basket.
• Wrap the basket in clear cellophane, if possible, with a little bow to top it off.
• NEW this year! Alcohol may be included in your basket!

DO NOT INCLUDE:

• Lottery or lotto tickets of any type
• Items with numerous restrictions (e.g. blackout dates or narrowly defined “eligible” dates)
• Certificates for partial value, such as $100 off a service
• Collectables with a narrow appeal (coins, stamps, figurines, etc.)

Help Needed

We are also looking for volunteers to help with this fun activity. This includes selling tickets and helping set up the scholarship basket display.
