Region Director Message The WSPTA Annual Convention was a huge success. Over 100 people from 28 local units from our region made the commitment to serve with more information. Many of you were first timers and came away more educated, informed and renewed to lead the charge into the next years of coverage. Many people choose to take PTA and the law for the first time while at convention. Diverse class offerings and extended vendor time made this year’s convention the best I’ve attended. Make plans to join in on the fun next year.
I would like to recognize the following Service Delivery Team members for their selfless dedication to PTA in our region throughout this last year: Ron Martinez, Brandis Roundy, Nalani Baker, Amy Fairchild, Lisa Matson, Rick Simon, Daniela Thom, Julie Matheny, Christa Pederson, Michele Lopez, Jenny Forbes, Michelle Nims, Annette Rice, Steve Campbell and Barbara Arocha. Without their expert guidance, support and supplementation, we could not have exceeded the expectations of our PTAs.
Mark your calendar and save the dates:
Our Region 7 Summer Conference will be held on Thursday August 19th from 5-9:00 PM at Eisenhower Middle School in Everett. For the first time ever, we will present the IRS 990 form class on October 5th at Forest View Elementary in Everett from 6-9 PM. PTA and the Law will be presented on October 16th at Marysville Arts and Technology High School from 9-Noon. Check inside this newsletter for registration information.
As you begin your summer vacation, here are a few reminders:
Please verify that your new board has been entered into the WSPTA database
Make certain to send delegates to this year’s Region 7 Summer Conference
Schedule a year-end financial review
Meet with your replacement prior to the end of summer to assure a smooth transition
Introduce a stranger to PTA and tell them what your PTA does for their child
Service Delivery Team positions available! Have you ever considered serving people outside of your school’s PTA? SDT members answer the call for service throughout the region. We provide local contact to our outlying local units and councils throughout the region, start new PTAs and present training classes. Training is provided at the WSPTA Leadership Conference in August. Email or call me if you have any questions.
Here are a few of the goals we are working on for next year:
Provide more PTA Council support and idea sharing
Start a PTA Council in the Arlington area
Open a new PTA in Granite Falls
Host a joint training on Whidbey Island of PTA and the law
Please join me in welcoming our newest PTA, Marysville Getchell High School PTSA.
