Friday Class Descriptions


Registering for specific class sessions is important for estimating class size. When you register, be sure to sign up for both part one and part two of any two-part classes. Once onsite you may attend any class with space available.

Remember to schedule time to visit exhibitors.

Class 101

Councils and Leadership

Topic: PTA; Councils

Councils are the hub of PTA leader development, whether serving local PTAs or developing leaders with a broader perspective district and statewide. This class offers insight for both new and experienced council leaders. Review the fundamental mission and responsibilities of councils, as well as council relationships with local PTAs, region service delivery teams, and Washington State PTA.

Members are the heart of PTA, but many people never join – simply because they were never asked. Learn the art and science of asking someone to join your PTA, and discover how to make membership a job that everyone can do!

President 101: PTA Basics for First-Time Presidents

You were just elected PTA president, but have no idea what you’re doing? Let us help! The role of PTA president has many moving parts and keeping up with them can be overwhelming. This class keeps it simple – “just the basics” to help brand new presidents find their footing and gain an overview of the job and its duties.

It can be tough to get everyone in one room for a meeting, but technology has your back! Look at alternatives to in-person meetings that can help you do your PTA business smoothly and effectively. We’ll discuss conference call technology, online meeting options, and how to set your PTA up to do business successfully with these tools.

Adapting Programs for Special Needs

Topic: Family and Community Engagement

Why aren’t special needs families participating in your PTA events and activities? There are some simple changes that can help engage all families by overcoming common challenges. This class will share examples of adapted programs and discuss how to support the special artist division of Reflections.

Our world is filled with ideas and information. There is so much we want to do but our time, energy and resources are limited. This workshop will explore how to put ideas into action. Learn how to set goals and why they matter. Create a project plan on the fly and understand the tools that will see a project to completion.
