Registering for specific class sessions is important for estimating class size. Once onsite you may attend any class with space available.

Effective advocacy involves building relationships with legislators and their staff and then communicating the right messages, at the right time, and in the right ways – to the right people! This class, based on the legislative calendar, shows you exactly how to do that – and much more!

Secondary PTAs : Support, Sustain, Succeed

Topic: PTA

Parent involvement in middle and high school PTAs is crucial and certainly different than elementary school PTA. This workshop will familiarize all PTA leaders with the differences between PTA and ASB, and how to work together effectively to maximize resources.

Managing Your Nonprofit PTA: The Financial Responsibilities of Board Members (Formerly: Money Matters)

Topic: Finance

The financial management of the PTA is the responsibility of the entire board of directors. Learn the basic financial skills to manage and track PTA funds, manage online accounts, and to fulfill legal obligations to maintain your tax-exempt status. Keep your PTA legally and financially sound, and your officers well-informed. Recommended for all elected officers and board members.

D.I.S.C.: What's Your Thinking Style?

Topic: Leadership

Are you a Dominant, Inspiring, Supportive or Critical Thinker? Most people have predictable patterns of behavior – specific personality styles.  There are four basic types which blend together to make your unique personality style. This class will help you better understand why you feel, think, and act the way you do, and you’ll have a great time, too!

Get a personal PTA coach! Spend 15 minutes talking to a PTA expert and hear proven methods you can use to handle your unique circumstances. Participants must also register in-person at the PTA Coaching Zone at convention. 15-minute slots fill quickly, so find us early!

Navigate a Meeting: An Interactive Journey

This interactive presentation requires attendees to participate as fictional board members. Scripts are handed out and the presenter/president facilitates the class through a “mock” meeting covering a myriad of things that may occur such as motions, committee reports, and passing the gavel.

Giving testimony before a decision-making body can be daunting, but it is a skill that successful advocates must cultivate. Learn the basics of giving quality testimony, and then take the opportunity to practice what you’ve learned with volunteer legislators and community leaders!
