Awards of Excellence
The Local PTA and Council Awards of Excellence Awards Program recognizes local PTAs, community PTAs, and councils whose level of effort in specific areas help them make a difference in their community. To participate in the Local PTA and Council Awards of Excellence Program, the PTA or council must meet the following standards:
- The Standards of Affiliation (SOA) contract was completed, signed, and submitted by the October 31st deadline. If the PTA or council was chosen for periodic review, all contract requirements must be in order.
- The PTA must be up to date on membership dues payments to WSPTA.
- The PTA must have at least 25 paid members (or an approved waiver) by February 1st.
- The PTA or council must have a president identified in the WSPTA membership database.
Local PTAs, community PTAs, or councils may apply for the following awards:
The purpose of this award is to promote advocacy at local PTAs, community PTAs, and councils by recognizing programs, projects, and activities/events that increase awareness of and participation in advocacy issues at the school, local community, council, region, state, and national level. The purpose of this award is to promote family and community engagement at local PTAs, community PTAs, and councils by recognizing programs, projects, and activities/events that increase family and community engagement and involvement. What does family and community engagement look like at your local PTA or council?
The Outstanding Communications Strategy Award recognizes local PTA and council use of all forms of communication. Use of multiple forms of communication is important in reaching all of the membership and/or community served.
The Outstanding Newsletter & E-blast Award recognizes local PTA and council newsletters and e-blasts, as they are an important and effective form of communication.
The Outstanding PTA of the Year Award identifies and honors those PTAs that, when compared to all others in their unique environment and within their own special circumstances, are the most representative examples of PTAs that exemplify the purposes and mission of PTA. There are three categories: Elementary and Secondary/Community PTA/Council.
The Outstanding Website Award recognizes local PTA and council websites as effective forms of communication.
The purpose of the PTAs Taking Significant Action Award is to recognize the accomplishments of local PTAs and councils across the state that present programs, projects, and activities that show significant originality, involvement, potential, usefulness and results. These programs are things that other PTAs and councils may want to replicate.
The Standards of Excellence Award is a tool to encourage the use of the best practices of PTA management. If your local PTA or council has not participated in awards, the Standards of Excellence is a great place to start. Participating in the Standards of Excellence could be used as a reporting tool to your members.
