Region Director Message
Welcome to a new year of PTA and advocating for children. I am reminded that we are more than a group that bakes cookies. We are a child advocacy group that is 150,000 voices strong. “This isn’t my Mother’s PTA.” We have come far in the 100 plus years and with your determination as the leaders of our local units and council, we will go even farther.
This is my second year as your Region 15 Director. This past year has been a whirlwind of activity in our region. It has been wonderful to meet so many of our local unites. We have traveled many miles, as we are the BIGGEST region in Washington. We are doing great things as a region. I was pleased to see all the wonderful programs and activities going on in our region.
During this summer break your Region 15 Service Delivery Team will be busy receiving training at the Leadership Conference, printing a newsletter, presenting your Region 15 Fall Conference and delivering your leadership packets. We are still looking for people to serve on the Region 15 Service
Delivery Team. If you would be interested in one of these positions contact me. This is a fun way to meet other PTA units in our region and continue your work on behalf of children.
This newsletter contains all the information you need to register for Leadership Conference, Fall Region 15 Training and PTA & the Law. I encourage each PTA unit board to attend these trainings. Find out what your job entails, share ideas with other PTA’s, make new friends, have a free lunch, enjoy adult companionship, and receive your leadership packet! Make a change in your thinking from training being “optional,” to training being a “must.” For training is the key to each PTA’s success by alignment with rules and guidelines established by our State PTA. At training we learn what is expected of ALL non-profit organizations from the Secretary of the State of Washington. These were just a few of the survey comments from last years training:
“I didn’t realize what I was missing until I attended the Fall Training”
“Don’t miss it, the classes were great and full of useful information.”
PTA & The Law, don’t miss it!” There were so many non-profit issues I didn’t know about.”
“I’ve taken PTA & the Law five times, each time I learn something new. It’s a must for all PTA’s.”
Each of us need to take a look at our budgets and make sure that we have allotted enough money to attend our region conferences and go to the annual WA State PTA Convention. It is great to be proactive in the training of our leadership, which in the long term helps our local units to be strong and effective on behalf of all of our children and youth in our communities.
I look forward to meeting all of you on August 28th. Send in the registration attached to this newsletter now, so you can be included in our luncheon. We will have expanded vendors and information and as always prizes,, prizes, prizes…
Kind Regards,
Vicky Seward
