Director's Message
The other day, my 22 mouth old grandson was watering my plants for me. I
reminded him not to forget the flowers. These flowers grow over five feet high,
but instead of watering the ground, he watered each one individually. This was a
long process that involved him laying down the hose, pulling the flowers down
one stalk at a time, to water each individual flower bloom. Imagine what kind of
world we would live in if we practiced this kind of attention to detail. In our
busy lives, do we remember to say thank you to the courtesy clerk in the grocery
store, wave and smile at the neighbor across the
road? Do we look into our childrens eyes and give them our full attention as
they tell, yet, another long, detailed story about their day? Do we take the
time as PTA leaders to acknowledge our members with a few seconds of our time?
In our home, we say thank you to each other several times a day. There is always
something we can be grateful for if we just take a moment and look. Fall is the
beginning of your local unit membership drives. Take a moment to acknowledge the
people who walk through the door at your school. Smile, say hello, make everyone
who enters feel welcome.
It is easy to do, and means so much to all of us. We need to know that the world
has a place for us, that we are truly invited in.
