Director's Message
The PTA year is off and running. Remember the
speed limit in the school zone is 20 mph. Its hard to do when you are ramped up and ready to
advocate! I hope everyone has gotten off to a smooth start without too many bumps in the
road. If you need roadside assistance call me or a Service Delivery Team member. (Were better
than AAA for your PTA repairs.)
I would like to welcome three new units in Region 1.
The brand new Kingston High School voted to
charter as a PTA in May. Greywolf Elementary in Sequim voted to charter as a PTA in June and
Sequim Middle School joined us in August and has a Steering Committee hard at work. This has been an
exciting and rewarding time for me to be a part of these new units. I have met wonderful people with
great hope and desires for the children and youth in their communities. I wish success
to all of you!
Region 1 Fall Workshop had a new Region Director for a day
I truly want to thank Kitty
Campagna for taking on the task while I was away. Region 1 has an awesome Service Delivery
Team that enjoys providing training and
leadership to the local units and Councils. Its hard to carve out a Saturday in August for both
class presenters and attendees for this workshop, but its time well spent. Thanks for playing!
Did you hear I was in Disneyland? My youngest son, Conner (the one with the BlueJacket baseball
player, spending a lot of time at the ball field this summer) was on a baseball team competing in a
tournament in Anaheim. When the dates were announced for the tournament, I said, I have
Leadership Conference at the beginning of the tournament and Region 1 Fall Workshop at the
end, I wont be able to go. He sat on that information for a couple days and came back
with, I need you there Mom.
My boys are pretty self sufficient and know that my PTA efforts and
responsibilities are important. I have missed special banquets and celebrated birthdays a day before
or a day after without complaints. Neither one of my boys has asked me to put aside PTA with such
true emotion. I'm so grateful that I was able to go with Conner without worries. In fact, I was
lying on the beach about that
time
Enough about my summer. Did I tell you I m going to Vegas? Baseball.
I'm so thrilled to have two members on the Service Delivery
Team from South Kitsap. Tracy Hopkins and Ruby Smith organized a great gathering of
local PTA leaders from the South Kitsap area for an evening of meeting, greeting, and
information sharing. I enjoyed being able to connect names and faces with new and returning
leaders in a smaller group atmosphere.
Have you heard about Simple Majority? How can you help? Dave
Milligan our Region 1 Legislative Chair has more information on this important issue. Legislative
Assembly is being held October 5- 6 in SeaTac this year. Be a part of the PTA prioritizing process. Plan
to attend.
Our next Region 1 training opportunity is PTA and the Law,
being held Tues., October 23 at Ridgetop Junior High in Silverdale. This training is essential for your
entire board of directors. You will find registration and more information about PTA and the
Law in the Region 1 Newsletter. I look forward to seeing you there!
Thank you for all you do for the children and youth in Region 1!
