Building Successful Partnerships

Washington State PTA Builds Partnerships – You Can Too!

Research proves that schools with well-structured, consistent parent involvement programs create success for students, teaches, administrators, and overall school quality.  Through research and interviews with leaders throughout the country, the National PTA identified six standards that may pave the way for successful parent involvement programs.  These standards are known as National PTA’s Standards for Parent/Family Involvement Programs.  They are:

  • Communicating—Communication between home and school is regular, two-way, and meaningful
  • Parenting – Parenting skills are promoted and supported
  • Student Learning – Parents play an integral role in assisting student learning
  • Volunteering – Parents are welcome in the school, and their support and assistance are sought
  • School Decision Making and Advocacy – Parents are full partners in the decisions that affect children and families
  • Collaborating with the Community – Community resources are used to strengthen schools, families, and student learning

Several PTA leaders in Washington State have been trained as presenters of the “Building Successful Partnerships” program, and they are ready to give more detailed information and listen to your ideas.  Call on them.
