Washington State PTA Math and Science Education Talk

This listserv is two-way, meaning that issues can be discussed among participants of the listserv.  The Legislative Director and Government Affairs Liaison provide more in-depth information than is found on the Action Alert listserv, and they often ask for feedback on what specific positions the PTA should take in light of our platform and the legislative possibilities available.

Listserv Protocol

The Washington State PTA provides discussion listservs as an advocacy tool for the exchange of information and ideas.  Listserv access and use is a great way for members to receive regular legislative updates, “talk” with other members, or just “listen” to the diversity of ideas and perspectives that our membership has to offer.

You can also help other members become “educated” about our advocacy efforts by encouraging them to sign up and use a particular “talk” listserv.

As a general reminder we ask you to observe the following listserv protocols:

·         Use clean, respectful language.
·
When sharing, focus on the ideas, rather than the individual people who are posting.
·         Comments must remain non-partisan.
·         Candidates for WSPTA office may participate in issue discussions.  However, election policies prohibit the use of WSPTA listservs for “campaigning”.

A listserv has a large audience with members who like to “talk”, and many more who are always “listening.  Here are some suggested guidelines to use when posting on a listserv:

  • Write a brief, clear, concise message
  • If you are changing the topic of discussion, change the subject heading so that readers can follow the different threads
  • Remember that a wide variety of folks, including legislators and PTA members who also belong to partner organizations, may be “listening” on our listserv; think about how your message will be perceived before you hit the “send” button

Members who have questions or concerns about conduct on the listserv should contact the WSPTA Executive Director, Legislative Advocacy Coordinator, President, or Legislative Director.

Thank-you for your involvement and help in building a better world for children.  Once your Washington State PTA membership has been verified, you will be added to this listserv.

Digest Version
A digest is a single email containing all the emails posted to the list for the current day, with a table of contents at the top.   It can be useful during periods of high listserv activity.

If you wish to receive digest versions of the listserv postings, please e-mail Melissa Anderson directly and she will put you on that list.  Her e-mail is:  manderson@wastatepta.org
