Leanne Hawkins
WSPTA Region 6 Director
Greetings! I am excited to start my term as Director for Region 6, an area that is geographically long and narrow, but with an influence that is broad and deep. Our Service Delivery Team has a dozen members ready to use their experiences, insights, skills and talents during this coming year to ensure that you, the members of the Local Units, are being trained and supported as we all work to be effective advocates for our children.

My PTA experience began in 1995, when my oldest son entered kindergarten. I signed up with any committee that had an opening, and began to experience the kind of community-building that PTA inspires. Through the years I’ve served in a variety of roles at the Local Unit, Council, and Region levels, and I’ve benefitted enormously from the educational and leadership opportunities afforded by the PTA.

In 1999, when my younger son entered kindergarten, I quit my part-time job as a paralegal to become an at-home mom. The PTA work continued, as did a commitment to the docent program at the Seattle Art Museum. I enjoy introducing both school children and adults to art works and the intriguing histories, stories, and influences that lie behind the works themselves. I also volunteer regularly with the Nordic Heritage Museum and the Book Sale for Friends of the Seattle Public Library. Reading, walking, gardening, and listening to music are some of my hobbies.

My husband Rick and I have lived in the same house in north Seattle for the past 22 years. We share it with Brian (this fall he’ll be a junior at the University of Washington), Scott (next year is his senior year at Ingraham High School), and Tina, a beautiful but very aloof tortoiseshell cat.
